The trophy competitions held at Thirsk Bridge Club are set out below.

MONDAY CLUB NIGHT ONLY

The Alumnus Cup

This is an individual trophy . The winner is the member showing the best improvement over the club season. To qualify the member must have a handicap greater than eight, have attended a minimum of twenty Monday sessions, and must not have won the cup previously.

TUESDAY CLUB NIGHT ONLY

 The Jubilee Cup

A Pairs competition played on the first Tuesday of the month from October through to March. The winners are the pair with the highest average of their best four results

The Jadran Vase

A ‘singles’ competition played when there are at least five tables in play. The winner is the player who, at the end of the season, has achieved the highest average score playing with five different partners. There is no limit to the number of partnerships play, or the number of partnerships.

Overall Pairs Trophy

A trophy awarded to the pair who achieves the highest average over the season. The partnership must play a minimum twenty Tuesday evenings together.

The Chairman’s Handicap Shield

A competition played over the whole season. The winner is the member who, at the end of the season has the highest score which includes their personal handicap, awarded over at least twenty club evenings. Handicaps are awarded on the average results from the previous year’s scoring,or in the case of new members, over at least ten club nights.

Overall Winners Trophy

It is an individual player’s competition. The winner is the member who, at the end of the season has achieved the highest average over the year, playing a minimum twenty club evenings.

Overall Handicapped Pairs Trophy

A trophy awarded to the pair who, using their combined handicap, achieves the highest average over the season. To qualify members must have played together for at least twenty club nights and not have won the ‘Overall pairs ‘ Trophy for the current season.

OTHER COMPETITIONS

Bernard Carbutt Trophy

Awarded in memory of a past member of the club.

This is an individual handicap competition played on or around the third Monday in October.

The Loveden Cup

A no fears competition (simple systems) to which Thornton-le-beans and Thirlby are invited. Will be held on Monday 19th May.

WINNERS 2008 Jenny Denham and Rachel Ritchie

HSBC TROPHY A handicapped pairs Knock-out competition .First round to commence in September, then on a monthly basis, winning pairs going through to the next round. Final to be held in February 2008. Both pairs to sit same direction unless a one winner movement.Each round must be completed by the end of the month due to be played. In the event of one pair not playing, the tie will be awarded to the other pair In the event of any dispute, the committee’s decision will be final.
